AzerGold Introduces Advanced Geotechnical Monitoring at Soyudlu Gold Deposit

AzerGold has launched a geotechnical monitoring system at the Soyudlu gold deposit, enhancing safety and operational efficiency while creating over 1,300 jobs in Azerbaijan's mining sector.

AzerGold CJSC has initiated the implementation of a state-of-the-art geotechnical monitoring system at the Soyudlu gold deposit, which is recognised as the largest gold deposit in the Caucasus region. This advanced technology is crucial given the mine’s complex geotechnical conditions and the frequent occurrence of various geological processes that could impact safety and operations.

The newly commissioned GroundProbe SSR-OMNI slope stability radar system will enable continuous, real-time monitoring of pit wall movements and deformation. This system is designed to detect and track ground displacement, allowing for the early identification of potentially hazardous slope instability. Such proactive measures are essential for mitigating risks and ensuring operational safety, thereby enhancing the continuity of mining activities.

In addition to the geotechnical advancements, AzerGold is also focusing on developing technological solutions for ore processing. Based on the mineralogical and metallurgical characteristics of the Soyudlu ore, the company has determined that flotation technology will be necessary at the initial processing stage. Technical and economic assessments are currently underway to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a modern flotation processing facility, which is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of ore processing at the site.

The commissioning of the Soyudlu mine is anticipated to have a substantial positive impact on Azerbaijan’s mining sector, increasing production capacity and boosting revenues for the state budget. Furthermore, the project is set to create new employment opportunities in the Kalbajar district, thereby supporting local economic activity and fostering social development.

During the initial production and construction phase from 2026 to 2029, it is estimated that approximately 700 direct and indirect jobs will be generated. Once the mine reaches full-scale production, the number of direct and indirect employment opportunities is expected to exceed 1,300, providing a significant boost to the local workforce and economy.
