    Solidcore Resources Secures $600 Million Financing for Gold Processing Plant in Kazakhstan

    Solidcore Resources, a gold producer, has secured $600 million in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a syndicate of commercial banks, including ING, Société Générale, and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB). The EBRD will provide $300 million over a ten-year period, while the commercial banks will contribute an additional $300 million, with each bank committing $100 million. The initial term of the credit line is set for five years, with an option to extend it to seven years. The agreement also allows for an increase in funding by up to $300 million. The Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant (ЕГМК) will act as a co-borrower alongside Solidcore.

    The financing package includes a three-year grace period, with the repayment of the principal amount commencing after the completion of the plant in 2029. Hussein Ozhan, EBRD’s Managing Director for Central Asia and Mongolia, highlighted that the development of local processing capacities and high-value product manufacturing will enable Kazakhstan to retain a greater share of added value within the country. He emphasized the bank’s commitment to promoting advanced metallurgical technologies, creating new jobs in the Pavlodar region, diversifying Kazakhstan’s mining sector, and enhancing its international competitiveness.

    In addition to the EBRD financing, Solidcore has signed a preliminary agreement with KfW IPEX-Bank for a $100 million credit line over seven years, with documentation currently being prepared.

    The ЕГМК will focus on extracting gold from previously difficult-to-process ores, located within the special economic zone of Pavlodar. Once operational, the plant is expected to process up to 300,000 tonnes of gold-bearing concentrate annually, producing up to 500,000 ounces of doré gold from the Kyzyl deposit and additional feedstock.

    The capital expenditure for the ЕГМК is estimated at approximately $1 billion, with Solidcore planning to finance part of this through loans and the remainder from its own funds. The company anticipates that the project will create around 500 permanent jobs upon completion.

    CEO Vitaly Nesis stated that the establishment of the hydrometallurgical plant in Pavlodar aims to mitigate production, market, and geopolitical risks. Construction has already commenced, with an autoclave installed for processing gold-bearing raw materials. The project has received a positive conclusion from the state expertise for the construction of the ЕГМК and its associated infrastructure, with over a thousand workers currently on-site.

    Solidcore is actively developing several mining projects, including the Bakyrchik deposit in the Abai region and the Varvarinskoye and Komarovskoye deposits in the Kostanay region. The company has reported a remarkable 222% increase in sales volume in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 123,000 ounces in gold equivalent, with revenues soaring 5.5 times to $595 million.

  • Solidcore’s Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant to Invest KZT 900m in Social Projects in Pavlodar Region

    Solidcore’s Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant to Invest KZT 900m in Social Projects in Pavlodar Region

    Authorities in Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar region have signed a social memorandum with Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant LLP, a flagship project of Solidcore Resources, outlining new investments in social and environmental initiatives.

    Under the agreement, the company will allocate approximately KZT 900 million toward socially significant projects in the city of Pavlodar. The funding will support capital repairs at three schools and two kindergartens, as well as broader improvements to the city’s social infrastructure.

    The memorandum also includes environmental commitments. As part of conservation measures, the project will finance the purchase of 65 units of specialised equipment for regional forestry and wildlife protection institutions.

    Vladimir Dudin, General Director of Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant LLP, said the company aims to ensure that industrial development directly contributes to improving living standards in the region.

    “For us it is important to build a model of cooperation where industrial growth directly contributes to improving the quality of life for people. Social investment is not a one-time initiative but part of the company’s long-term strategy,” he said.

    Pavlodar regional governor Asain Baikhanov highlighted the importance of cooperation between government and business in achieving sustainable regional development.

    The Ertis Hydrometallurgical Plant is planned to become Kazakhstan’s first full-cycle facility for processing gold-bearing concentrates. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 and is expected to strengthen the country’s downstream processing capacity in the mining sector.

  • Kazakh Scientists Develop Innovative Technology for Processing Polymetallic Ore

    Kazakh Scientists Develop Innovative Technology for Processing Polymetallic Ore

    Scientists from the Kazmekhanobr Research and Production Enterprise, a branch of the National Center for Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of Kazakhstan, have developed an innovative technology for processing polymetallic ore from the Chinasyl-Sai deposit. The breakthrough was reported by El.kz, citing the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.

    The primary challenge in processing such ores lies in their complex composition. The Chinasyl-Sai deposit contains gold, silver, lead, zinc, and pyrite, requiring a method to efficiently extract valuable components while minimizing costs.

    A key achievement of the new technology is the elimination of cyanide reagents, making the process safer and more environmentally friendly. The researchers have perfected a gravity-flotation method that allows ore enrichment without additional grinding of the industrial product.

    The innovative process yields three types of concentrates:

    • A gravity concentrate enriched with gold and silver;
    • A lead flotation concentrate;
    • A zinc flotation concentrate.

    All these products meet the requirements for further production of valuable metals. Moreover, the technology is adaptable for processing similar ores from other deposits, opening new opportunities for the development of Kazakhstan’s mining industry.

    Gold Processing Plant in Astana Plans to Develop Jewelry Sector

    “Tau-Ken Altyn,” a gold refining plant in Astana and a subsidiary of the national company “Tau-Ken Samruk,” is set to broaden its range of processed raw materials and manufactured products, announced Bakyt Chirchikbayev, chairman of the board of “Tau-Ken Samruk.” The company aims to enhance both the variety of processed materials and the output of finished products, including the processing of catalysts and the expansion of the jewelry sector, as stated during the MINEX-2024 forum.

    Chirchikbayev highlighted that last year, following successful research endeavors, the company initiated the processing of solid industrial waste from the gold refining plant, leading to virtually zero-waste production.

    Kaysar Zhumagaliyev, chairman of the association of legal entities “Jewelers’ League of Kazakhstan,” noted in 2019 that the obligation to pay value-added tax (VAT) when purchasing refined gold from “Tau-Ken Altyn” had prompted jewelers to prefer acquiring gold from pawnshops and informal miners.

    Chirchikbayev also mentioned another intriguing project, a joint venture (laboratory) in Karaganda with the Australian company ALS. The joint venture aims to diversify the company’s activities by providing services to other firms, particularly subsidiaries of “Tau-Ken Samruk”.
