Is “Made in Europe with China” to become the new motto for the (struggling) European battery industry? Find out in this brand new episode of the Raw Matters podcast with Henry Sanderson, author of the bestseller VOLT RUSH: the winners and losers in the race to go green.
CHINA SPEED
In Episode #3 of RAW MATTERS Julia Poliscanova (she/her) and Peter Tom Jones spoke at length with Henry Sanderson, author of VOLT RUSH and China expert/journalist, about the China Speed-model. How does it work? What is the secret of the success of fully-vertically integrated giants such as CATL and BYD? How sustainable is China’s export-driven model? What is the impact on Europe of China’s export restrictions and licenses? Does China need Europe (and its market more particularly)? More specifically, the episode dives deep into the future of the European battery industry. Which way forward? Is it a case of “Made in Europe” or “Made in Europe, with China”? Should we focus on getting the manufacturing of the current battery types right or should we “leapfrog” to next-generation battery chemistries? And are Europe’s policies such as the CRMA and IAA helping to move the needle? Expect some out-of-the-box thinking!
