Kazakhstan-Russia Trade Surpassed Record High in 2022

Kazakhstan’s exports to Russia rose by 25.1% year-on-year, while the share of Russian imports fell by 1.5%. Metal exports fell by 17% to $2bn, while chemical and related industries rose to $1.9bn, a 102% increase from 2021. Machinery, equipment, vehicles, devices and apparatus were the highest export group, with a 4.5-fold increase from $471m in 2021 to $2.1bn in 2022. Russian imports to Kazakhstan declined by 27.6% YoY to $17.2bn. Machinery, equipment, vehicles, devices and apparatus made up 19.8% of imports, while products of animal and vegetable origin were 18.5%. Kazakhstan’s total foreign trade in 2022 amounted to $136.3bn. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) accounted for 26.9% of foreign trade in the amount of $36.1bn, with Russia contributing 72.3% of that figure. Meanwhile, trade with European countries accounted for 32.3% of foreign trade, with Italy accounting for the largest volume at $14.9bn.
