“Kumtor Gold Company” continues the activities necessary to begin development of the Togolok gold deposit, located 200 km from the Kumtor mine.

Vice President for Production of Kumtor Gold Company Kubanychbek Turdukozhoev noted that despite the fact that only 5 months have passed since the receipt of the license to develop the Togolok deposit and conduct geological exploration work in the Dzhangartskaya area, specialists have done a lot of work.

“In the period from 1978 to 1982, during geological exploration of the Togolok deposit, Soviet specialists built 1,424 meters of tunnels. Currently, work is underway to strengthen and increase the length of the adit tunnels. Access to 230 meters of the tunnel, which had been closed for more than 40 years, has been restored. Also, light was installed in the adit and a ventilation system was installed. Not far from the adit, a camp has been set up for mining foremen working on a rotational basis, where the necessary conditions for rest and eating have been created,” he said.

Since November 2023, drilling work has been underway at the Togolok deposit, and since December – underground work, as a result of which it is planned to extract about 4 tons of ore samples from the bowels of the earth. In total, it is planned to carry out drilling operations with appropriate sampling at 40 sections of the mine. Currently, the drilling of 22 wells has been completed, samples from 17 wells have already been sent for laboratory research.

At the same time, work is underway to lay a technical road, expand its narrow sections, and strengthen the supports of existing bridges. This work, including the construction of new bridges, will continue.

For reference: The license to develop the Togolok gold deposit and conduct geological exploration work in the Dzhangartskaya area was issued in August 2023.

According to Soviet geologists, gold reserves at the Togolok deposit are about 17 tons. The main goal of the current work is to confirm information on reserves and determine a cost-effective method of gold mining.

In addition, geological exploration work will begin in the Dzhangart area this year.
